Mending like crazy

by Eline Groeneweg

Repairing something can be therapeutic. Mending fabric, for instance, often involves a repetitive process of attentive, precise and slow movements. For this project I made a dress solely for this purpose. I started the process by repairing a little hole with a piece of fabric taken from the dress itself. Cutting out this piece left, obviously, a new hole, which I then mended again with another, slightly bigger, piece of fabric taken from the dress. Again, of course, a new hole appeared which I repaired again . . . and so on. As the reparation goes on, the holes get bigger and bigger turning the process into a frantic act bordering obsession.
